Azure Data Engineer
Manchester – Hybrid
Up to £65,000

Are you interested in data transformation projects where you’ll be building data pipelines, data lakes and data warehouses using the latest and greatest tools and technologies? Are you hoping to join a company who is committed to employee development, offers unrivalled levels of flexibility and autonomy for you and the team?

This role offers all of that and so much more.

You’ll be working with Azure, Data Factory, SQL, Power BI, Databricks, Python, ETL, ELT and Fabric in a no expense spared tech environment with a company who are working on a massive project to transform, consume and model their data – making it more accessible for all areas of the business.

You’ll also have exposure to AWS and have the opportunity to use or pick up skills in that area. This would also see you be involved in Machine Learning projects and data models.

Before we talk about the role itself, here’s a few things worth knowing about this company:

  • They offer hugely flexible working hours, it’s a 5 hour day and you can start it from 5am-10am depending on your preference
  • You’d be working in a small team of 10, working closely with the Lead Engineer, a Cloud Engineer, a Senior Data Engineer and a Data Scientist, plus the wider software team who together decide how to approach and build each project
  • They invest heavily in their staff, they have big training budgets, providing it’s relevant to your role and the business, you can study it and certify in it. You’ll be given your own A Cloud Guru subscription as well as 2 days per month set aside for personal development.
  • Staff retention here is exceptional. This role is as a result of further investment and expansion.
  • They offer hybrid working, there’s a requirement to be in the office on Mondays and Fridays alongside the rest of the team – on Friday they finish early, generally around lunchtime
  • Their tech stack includes all of the above plus Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform, CloudWatch, Cloudflare, New Relic, Node, TypeScript – plus more.
  • One stage interview process, face to face at their offices on Manchester Science Park.

What will the role involve?

  • Building and maintaining an Azure data platform
  • Designing Azure database solutions – warehouses, data lakes etc.
  • Creating Azure data pipelines
  • Using SQL/Python to query data and extract data from API’s
  • Using Infrastructure as Code technologies (Terraform/CDK) to automate tasks
  • Learning and using Microsoft Fabric
  • Big Power BI focus, creating reports, querying data etc.
  • Working closely with the Senior Data Engineer to gain context around the data

This is the next part of their journey, upscaling and having the infrastructure in place to support their growth. Making data accessible is key to that. It’s a great environment, a great team and a fantastic place to work.

If you have experience of the above and you’ve worked with Azure, Power BI, SQL etc – we would love to speak to you.
